Member Spotlight: Altered Ego

Written by Nancy Schillo, Madison County Chamber Ambassador

As part of her duties as a Madison County Chamber of Commerce Ambassador, Nancy Schillo recently visited fellow Chamber members Nell Gantt Brown and her daughter, Nicole, owners of Altered Ego, an alterations and seamstress shop in Comer.

Altered Ego is no stranger to the Madison County community! The Chamber was excited to celebrate the business with a ribbon cutting in September and welcomed Nell and Nicole as participants in Ladies Night Out in Comer earlier this month. Nancy's visit offered another opportunity to connect with these members, learn more about their business, and share their story with the community.

During her visit, Nancy learned more about the work happening at Altered Ego. Nell and Nicole have been working diligently to complete customer projects, bringing their sewing skills and craftsmanship to each job. While visiting the shop, Nancy saw Nicole constructing a beautiful black and white bodice, highlighting the creativity and talent behind their work.

The family's commitment to the community extends well beyond their business. Nell and her family are also the driving force behind Caring and Sharing, a monthly outreach program that provides meals to more than 200 people on the third Saturday of each month. Meals are prepared, packaged, and delivered to homebound residents throughout Madison County at no cost to recipients. This ongoing effort continues a multigenerational tradition of women in the family giving back to Comer and the surrounding communities.

If you are looking for alterations or sewing services, stop by Altered Ego to meet Nell and Nicole and learn more about their work. The shop is located just down the sidewalk from Maggie's in Comer.

Through the Chamber Ambassador Program, members like Nancy help strengthen connections across our business community by meeting with assigned members, learning about their businesses, and sharing the stories that make Madison County special. We are grateful for ambassadors who help us continue to connect and grow while supporting the businesses that make our community thrive.
